Fall 2004 - Ann & Ken Robb (Galena Territory)

The Robb home is situated on a high bluff in the Galena Territory. The home features a bold and unique tower that overlooks the Galena Territory and the tri-state area (IL, WI & IA). The landscape theme is simple, classic and bold. This gives the property a clean and crisp look year round.

The Robb’s landscape is dominated by the driveway courtyard. Because of the severe front to back slope of the property, the courtyard is defined by native stone walls. The walls, which reach over 6’ tall, are set in a formal, rectangular pattern. The rugged, natural, native stone set in very strict and formal lines provides a striking contrast and leads the landscape from the formal home to undisturbed area bordering the home.

The plantscape features three large maple trees which turn orange to red in the fall. The Robb’s requested relatively large trees be planted for a more finished and mature look. The maples are situated to frame and tuck in the home as you approach by car.

The giant native stone patio behind the home is another great feature. The large stones (12” – 14” thick) where pieced together off site much like a giant jigsaw puzzle. The stones were then numbered and brought to the Robb property for installation. The result flows seamlessly with the rest of the landscape and the undisturbed area the patio overlooks.
